| Ford is adding a dose of performance to its Police Interceptor sedan with a new 3.7L V6 option. The new 3.7L will slot between the Interceptor's standard 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 and the range-topping 3.5L EcoBoost V6. The new engine is intended to give law enforcement officials a more powerful option without sacrificing much in the way of fuel economy. The mid-level 3.7L V6, which utilizes all-wheel drive, produces 17 more horsepower than the 3.5L – for a grand total of 305 – while only taking a 1mpg hit in highway economy (25mpg vs. 26mpg). City economy remains unchanged at 18mpg. “This combination of great performance and top-notch fuel economy means law enforcement agencies won’t have to compromise power or fuel efficiency while getting the job done,” said Bill Gubing, chief engineer for Police Interceptor. The 3.7L V6 would make an interesting addition to the civilian version of the Police Interceptor, the Taurus, but Ford has so far made no indication that the bigger V6 is heading to the Taurus. The Taurus is currently available with a naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 as well as the turbocharged-six in SHO guise. http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-adds-37l-v6-to-police-interceptor-mix.html

| I was talking to a police officer at a car show on Saturday where he brought one, and he said that it is faster and more fuel efficient than the Crown Victoria but there is less room for the officer in the unit. They look really nice too, especially for a police car. | |
